Opening the trunk of your car allows you to haul personal belongings to your destination.

Opening a car trunk lock can be tricky if you are opening a trunk with which you are unfamiliar. Many people like to store luggage bags, important documents, sporting equipment and food in a trunk so they can haul their belongings to their destinations. You can open a car trunk lock by figuring out the type of car trunk lock opening mechanism you have on the car you are using.

Instructions

Press the trunk opening mechanism on your remote keyless entry device, if the car you are using has one. The trunk opening mechanism is usually indicated by a picture of a car with an open trunk. Press and hold down this button for two seconds, and the trunk lock on the car will open automatically.

Open the driver's door of the car on which you want to open the trunk lock. Look for a trunk release handle on the floor in the area between the driver's seat and the door. They are also sometimes located on the inside of the driver's door. The handle on many cars has a picture of a car with the trunk open. Pull up on this handle, and the car trunk lock opens.

Pull the trunk release handle under the steering wheel. This handle is located under the steering wheel on the left side. If your car has a trunk lock release handle here, pull it and your trunk is released.

Open the glove box and press the trunk release button. Many cars have a trunk lock release button on the inside of the glove box. The button here is yellow, red or black on most models. Press the button, and the trunk lock opens.

Place the key that opens your car doors into the key hole on the trunk of your car. If you use a key to open the doors of your car, that key also likely opens your trunk. Insert the key into your trunk's key hole and turn it in a clockwise direction until the lock on your trunk pops open.
