How to Fold Band Saw Blades

Band saws use large, thin continuous blades that can be as long as 108 inches. Extra blades can be rather cumbersome to store. With a little practice, you can fold a bandsaw blade from one big loop into three smaller ones, and store it in a drawer or hanging on a peg hook or nail.

Things You'll Need

  • Leather gloves
  • Piece of scrap plywood
  • Wire ties

Instructions

    • 1

Put on your leather gloves. Place the piece of plywood on the ground in front of you.

    • 2

Hold the band saw blade as one big loop with the teeth facing away from you. Rest the bottom of the blade loop on the plywood and hold the blade onto the plywood with your foot.

    • 3

Grab the top of the loop with one hand, and turn it clockwise one full rotation. As you rotate the blade with your hand, the band saw blade will begin to form three smaller loops.

    • 4

Grab these three loops with your off hand, and lift your foot off of the blade. Re-shape the three loops so that they are all the same size, fitting together evenly.

    • 5

Fasten a wire tie around the three loops to keep them from unraveling.

Tips & Warnings
