How to Decorate a Game Room With License Plate Decor

Decorate your game room with old license plates to complement an eclectic theme or a theme based on vintage cars, places you've been or simply because you enjoy collecting license plates. The plates can be authentic vintage plates or lookalikes with personalized messages that you have custom-made. Get creative with the plates to make your game room an interesting place where family and friends enjoy gathering.

Instructions

1. Paint the walls a neutral color, such as white, gray or beige, so they don't compete with the license plates. If using only one color of license plate, such as plates from one state, paint the walls a color that complements the plate color. For example, if using white plates with blue letters (such as those from California), paint the walls blue or blue-gray.

2. Cover furniture or other accessories with license plates. For example, magazine boxes or photo boxes that house games, supplies or other items can be decorated with license plates. Decorate drawer-fronts with license plates. Spruce up tabletops by gluing license plates to the top and adding cut-to-size plexiglass to cover (and protect) the plates.

3. Hanging license plates will depend on the effect you want to create. For example, plates can be arranged to form a desired initial or initials, a shape or even a car. For something more traditional, hang the plates in evenly spaced rows.

   If using personalized plates, consider hanging them above photographs. For example, hang a picture of a classic 1972 Corvette under a plate that reads "72 VETTE" or "72CHEVY."

   If combining plates with a sports theme, hang plates with team names over pictures or posters of favorite teams.

Tips & Warnings

• Collect or make plates that hold special meaning to you and your family. For example, if you take a family road trip each summer, include plates from all of the states you go through. Or, collect a new plate for each trip you take. That way your game room decor will have significant meaning for you and your family.

• If you want to cover an entire wall with license plates, use simple decor on the others so that you don't overwhelm the game room.
