How to Not Let iTunes Remove Songs From an iPod

Prevent iTunes from deleting iPod songs.

The free Apple software iTunes is needed to use your iPod with your computer. ITunes is pre-configured to sync one iPod to one computer song list. If you use the program with more than one iPod, the software could remove all of the songs that have been saved onto the additional iPods. Those songs could be permanently lost if they are not in the iTunes library on your computer. Avoid this complication by changing a setting in iTunes.

Instructions

1. Connect the iPod you wish to use to the computer with the iPod cable.

2. Open iTunes.

3. Click the iPod label underneath "Devices."

4. Click on the "Summary" tab located inside the center panel of iTunes. Numerous different settings for your iPod will become visible in the iTunes window.

5. Click the box positioned next to "Manually manage music and videos" in order to turn that setting to "On." Once you have done this, click the "Apply" button at the the bottom of the iTunes window.

6. Unplug your iPod after an "OK to Disconnect" message appears.
