How to Make a Pet Rock Leash

How to Make a Pet Rock Leash thumbnail
Pet rocks come in all shapes and sizes.

Rocks are the ideal pet for those who want companionship without the hassle of having to provide food and water and clean up waste on a regular basis. Although rocks are very low-maintenance, that doesn't mean you should keep your pet cooped up inside all the time. If you don't feel like carrying your pet, make sure it's on a leash when you're outdoors. A loose pet rock could roll onto a sidewalk and cause someone to trip or ruin a car tire if it ends up in the street.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy ribbon or yarn at your local arts and crafts store. Choose a width that's thick enough to hold your rock firmly without smothering it. Select a bright color or bold pattern to offset your rock's gray or brownish hue or choose a soft, muted tone for a more elegant look.

    • 2

Wrap the ribbon or yarn securely around the widest part of your rock once and make a tight knot. If the knot starts to come loose, double-knot the ribbon or yarn to keep it in place. You should still be able to slip the leash off of the rock when not in use.

    • 3

Extend the ribbon or yarn out to the length you want and cut it. A longer leash is more suitable for well-behaved rocks. Make the leash length shorter if your rock is prone to rolling or tumbling or if you have a hard time keeping it under control.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rocks are usually docile, but keep in mind that no pet's behavior is completely predictable. Using a leash will give you better control if your pet decides to act up.

  • Don't leave your pet rock outside unattended or it could end up joining a neighborhood kid's "interesting rock" collection.
