How to Connect a SCSI Port to a USB Hard Drive

External hard drives usually come in the USB format, which can prove a problem if you already have the maximum number of USB devices attached to the machine. You can solve the problem by using a simple USB-to-SCSI adapter to attach your hard drive via the computer's rarely invoked SCSI port. The adapter converts the USB input signal to a SCSI output signal.

Instructions

    • 1

      Shut down the computer.

    • 2

Plug the USB drive into the USB port of the USB-to-SCSI adapter.

    • 3

Connect the SCSI end of the adapter to the SCSI port on the back of the computer.

    • 4

Start the computer to auto-detect the drive. The computer will automatically detect the presence of the USB drive on the SCSI port and enable you to access it through the "My Computer" and "Windows Explorer" menus.
