How to Make My ActiveX Control Work Properly
ActiveX controls are Microsoft's answer to Java applets, in that they are small applications that run on a user's computer to help display and run content in a Web browser. ActiveX controls are therefore used predominantly by Internet Explorer. ActiveX controls can sometimes have running problems, and one danger is that many malware programs utilize ActiveX to download viruses and spyware to a person's computer. If ActiveX is not functioning properly, fixing it is pretty simple.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open Internet Explorer. ActiveX is automatically installed with Explorer, so there should not be a need to reinstall anything.
-
2
Open the "Tools" menu, and click on the "Security" tab.
-
-
3
Click on the "Custom Level" button at the bottom of the screen to access your specific security guidelines.

4
Enable any options involving ActiveX to have full functionality for the application. There may be some options, such as allowing ActiveX controls from third-party applications, that you may want to leave disabled to prevent malware infestation.

5
Experiment with which ActiveX controls you want enabled for your system that suit your needs.

Tips & Warnings
If you are using a Web browser other than Internet Explorer, ActiveX is not likely to work since it was designed by Microsoft specifically for the Explorer interface. Java applets will perform similar functions for other Web browsers.
If ActiveX is still not running properly with everything enabled, update Explorer and it should repair itself.
Enabling ActiveX controls does leave your system more vulnerable to malware attack. Perform regular scans on your computer to make sure your system is secure.
