How to Make a Waist Apron With Pockets

Aprons are an essential item for any baker or cook, at least those who don't want to ruin their clothes in the kitchen. While full bib aprons protect more areas of clothing from splatter, waist aprons are easier to put on, easier to store and less cumbersome. All kinds of aprons can be found in stores, but you can save money and customize your look by making your own pocketed waist apron, a simple task for even a beginning seamstress.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a piece of fabric that is 24 inches wide and 30 inches long. Fold over both 24-inch edges and one of the 30-inch edges 1/4 inch and iron the folds in place.

    • 2

Fold over the three folded edges another 1/4 inch and sew the folds in place. This will form the body of the apron.

    • 3

Cut out a rectangular piece of fabric that is 3 inches wide and 45 inches long. This will form the waistband of the apron.

    • 4

Fold over the edges of the waistband 1/4 inch and iron the folds in place. Fold over the edges 1/4 inch more and sew the folds in place.

    • 5

Line up the raw edge of the body of the apron with the middle of the waistband on the wrong side of the fabric.

    • 6

Sew the body of the apron to the waistband.

    • 7

Cut out a piece of fabric that is 7 inches long and 5 inches wide.

    • 8

Fold over all of the edges of the fabric 1/4 inch and iron the folds down. Place the fabric on the apron wherever a pocket is desired.

    • 9

Sew the sides and bottom of the pocket onto the apron, leaving the top open. Repeat the process for as many pockets as you desire.
