Instructions

    • 1

Open the deck of cards and pull out all 13 heart cards. If you are hosting a party with 13 or fewer, you can use only heart cards to represent the Queen of Hearts. Otherwise, use any playing cards you wish for the invitations. This becomes the background on the front of the card.

    • 2

Apply glue to the back of a playing card. Press it into the white 5-by-7 blank card vertically. Repeat with all the invitations you need for the party. Allow them to dry completely.

    • 3

Print out a template for the Mad Hatter's hat from websites such as DLTK or Nick Jr. with your computer's printer and printer paper. Cut out the template with scissors.

    • 4

Place the template onto the black velvet paper and trace it with a white pencil or chalk. This can be found at fabric stores. You will need one hat per invitation. Trace the number of hats you will need for the project and cut out each hat with scissors.

    • 5

Glue the hat into the center of each playing card on the cover of the invitation. Repeat for each card. Cut a piece of gold ribbon so it fits across the hat just above the brim. Repeat for each hat and glue into place. Allow it to dry.

    • 6

Glue red scrapbook flowers on either side of the Mad Hatter's hat, using two flowers per card. Let it dry.

    • 7

Write the information about the party inside the card with a black calligraphy pen. Write "don't be late for this very important date." Include the location, date, time and purpose of the party. Repeat for every invitation.

    • 8

Place one invitation into an envelope. Glue it shut and stamp the back flap with a rabbit stamp pressed into a black stamping pad to represent the White Rabbit. Repeat for each invitation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Find a rabbit stamp that fits on the envelope's back flap.

  • Add other elements such as a teacup to the front of the invitation by cutting them out with paper and gluing them into place.

  • Adult supervision is needed for this project.
