How to Paint a Grass Mural

How to Paint a Grass Mural thumbnail
Grass murals can be as simple or as complex as desired.

Murals make any room in a house come alive with creative images from nature or the imagination. One possibility for a simple mural is a basic landscape with grass. For those desiring an additional challenge, consider adding items such as people, plants or insects.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the overall shape for the mural.

    • 2

Create guide borders on the wall. Use a string compass to plot out your horizon. If you are creating hills with grass, form the diagonals with a focal point on the wall with the string compass.

    • 3

Begin painting. Paint the grass that is meant to appear close lighter than the grass that is meant to appear far away. Initially paint a straight edge on the grass. Next, use a sponge brush to "fluff" up the top of the grass. Finally, paint some occasional strands in a slightly lighter shade to blend into the fluffed section.

    • 4

Once the grass is finished, create additional images such as the sun or clouds. For an additional dimension, consider using felt to create trees and animals.
