How to Program My DIRECTV Remote to Orion

Eliminate your Orion TV remote.

DIRECTV is one of the leading satellite companies for the United States, providing its customers with television programming in any location with access to the skies. Customers who have this service can use their DIRECTV remote to control the television they are watching, such as an Orion TV or others. This function is typically set up when the satellite service is installed, but sometimes you need to program the remote again to work with the TV.

Instructions

1. Turn on the DIRECTV receiver and the Orion (or any other) television.

2. Click on the "Menu" button on the DIRECTV remote. Select "Parental, Fav's and Setup" (or similar).

3. Click on "System Setup." Click on "Remote."

4. Select "Program Remote." Choose "TV."

5. Move down the list of television brands until you locate Orion codes. The list is very long, but is alphabetical to make it easier to find your brand.

6. Move the "Mode" switch on the top of the remote from "DIRECTV" to "TV."

7. Press both "Mute" and "Select" on the remote simultaneously and hold until the light above TV blinks twice. Let go of the buttons.

8. Enter the first code listed for the Orion television. Test to see if this code will work by pressing the volume button. If the volume changes, the code worked.

9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for each Orion television code listed until you find one that works with your TV.

10. Move the "Mode" switch back to "DIRECTV" on the remote. Select "Done" to complete setting up your remote.

Tips & Warnings

• The codes listed for Orion televisions as of April 2010 include the following: 10236, 10463, 11463, 10002, 10179, 11911 and 11929.

• The Orion TV codes are also listed in the manual for your DIRECTV remote. If you no longer have this, you can find a copy of it at the DIRECTV link in Resources.

• Test the code selected by pressing the "ON" or "PWR" button on the remote as you point the remote at the Orion TV. The television will turn off if the code worked.

• Do not forget to move the Mode switch back to DIRECTV after setting up the remote, or you will not be able to use the remote with your receiver.
