Three-toed puppy prints take seconds.

Puppy paw prints provide a quick and easy design to draw for scrapbook borders, pet-themed party invitations or to use as a project when teaching children to draw. Once you master the basic puppy paw print, you can alter and make it as elaborate or simple as you want. Create your own variations to fit the style and tone of your current project.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a large circle to represent the middle of the paw print. Curve the sides slightly so the top of the circle is smaller than the sides. It should resemble a triangle shape with rounded corners and slightly curved sides. This represents the pad part of the paw print.

    • 2

Create an oval taller than it is wide above the top of the pad. Make it a little less than half the height of the pad of the paw print. Curve the oval a little on the sides to ensure it doesn't look too perfect. Keep it short and pudgy, not stretched or long.

    • 3

Create an oval on either side of the larger oval. Make these two ovals the same size but slightly smaller than the larger, center oval. Keep them taller than they are wide, but make them pudgy.

    • 4

Add a thin line sticking out from the end of each oval to represent a toenail. You can skip this step if you do not want the toenails as part of the paw print. Keep the line short.

    • 5

Trace the paw print in ink, and erase the pencil marks when the ink dries. Color the paw print if desired. Black is a common color for paw prints.

Tips & Warnings

  • Create a puppy paw print on black construction paper by drawing your prints on the paper and then cutting out the ovals. Glue them to a piece of light-colored paper for best results.
