Plan a kitchen before buying anything.

When you are designing your new kitchen, making sure you have the necessary space to include everything you want is made easier with a free online kitchen planner. There are a variety of websites that offer the use of a free planner and allow you to experiment with different counter shapes, appliance placement or even design a kitchen to your exact specifications. Before you purchase your new kitchen cabinets or appliances, make sure they look and fit ideally in your space with a kitchen design planner.

Instructions

  1. IKEA

    • 1

      Visit the IKEA website. Select "Design your Dream Kitchen" to download the free Kitchen Planner. Run through the IKEA Home Planner Installation Wizard. Press "Finish" once you are done.

      Go to your desktop and double-click on the IKEA Home Planner icon. Define the space you are working with, including room shape, wall height and room square footage area.

      Add room elements to the layout, including doors, windows, ventilation, gas, electricity or water pipes and any freestanding walls.

      Select "Furnish" from the tab on the top portion of the Home Planner. This will bring up an IKEA product list to choose items from, and place them around your room dimensions.

      Hit the "3D" button to see a 3D version of your kitchen. Make any design adjustments as necessary by deleting or adding products to the kitchen plans.

      Press the "Items List" button for a printout of your shopping list, and take it with you to your nearest IKEA store. Save your plans by pressing the "Save" button and assigning it a file name or print out your plans by pressing the "Print" button.

    Floor Planner

      Visit FloorPlanner.com. Click "Free Signup" to create your own basic design profile.

      Select "Kitchen" from the Library Category on the right portion of the screen. Choose a kitchen counter plan that resembles your own. Drag the design element to the graphing plan layout. Scroll through the library to select appliances, countertop designs and sinks and lay them out according to your specifications.

      Select the "3D" tab in the upper right portion of the layout to see a 3D image of your kitchen plans. Click the disc icon in the upper left corner to save your plans, or print them out by hitting the printer icon in the upper right portion of the screen.

    Smart Draw

      Visit Smart Draw. Go through the wizard to download your free trial planner. Click "Continue" to move on with the free seven day trial.

      Select the ideal kitchen floor plan from the suggested layouts based on your own layout. Double click on the layout that best represents the design you want. The layout will be placed into the planner workspace, where you may add walls, doors or windows and make any wall measurement adjustments. Move the kitchen plan around as desired by placing the mouse over the item, clicking and moving it elsewhere.

      Save your plans by clicking the disc icon at the top left portion of the screen. Print out the plans by clicking the printer icon.
