How to Connect a DSL to a Phone Line
A digital subscriber line (DSL) allows for faster data transmission through the wires of a local telephone network. This results in higher speeds compared with dial-up Internet connections. You can purchase DSL service from most phone companies. Prices vary greatly from company to company, but DSL service is typically more expensive than dial-up but less expensive than cable Internet.

1
Remove any phone currently plugged into the phone jack you will use for your DSL modem.
-
2
Plug in the DSL filter to the phone jack. A DSL filter is a dual plug that allows both your phone and DSL phone line to be plugged into the same phone jack. If you do not have or plan on plugging a phone into this jack, you don't need to plug in the DSL filter.

-
3
Connect one end of your regular phone cord into the DSL filter or directly into home phone outlet jack if you are not using a DSL filter. If using a DSL filter, you may also now plug your phone back into the one of the phone jacks on the filter.
-
4
Plug the other end of your phone cord into the WAN/DSL port on the back of your DSL modem.
-
5
Insert your Ethernet cable into the Ethernet/DSL out port.
-
6
Insert the other end of your Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer.
-
7
Follow any instructions provided by your DSL provider, such as inserting an installation disc to connect your computer to the Internet.
