How to Set Up a DSL Internet Connection

How to Set Up a DSL Internet Connection thumbnail
A DSL modem can speed up your Internet access.

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is an Internet connection that transfers data over phone lines, then converts them to broadband Internet via a DSL modem. As such, DSL is provided mostly by phone companies such as Verizon or AT&T. Setting up a DSL Internet connection is simple; however, because using DSL can cause interference on the phone line, you should install DSL filters to any phone jack that is using a phone before setting up the DSL modem.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the phone line from the wall jack (without a filter) to the back of the DSL modem.

    • 2

Connect an Ethernet cable between your computer and the back of the DSL modem.

    • 3

Turn on the DSL modem. The DSL Internet connection should now be set up and working properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • DSL allows only one user to connect at a time. Add a router to expand the number of users.
