How to Install Java Plugins for Firefox 3
Installing Java on your computer enables you to access various applications and games that enhance your Web-browsing experience. Luckily, Firefox 3 gives you the ability to install Java plugins quickly and with ease. These plugins will let you use Java within the Firefox 3 browser, and you will also be given the option of enabling or disabling Java whenever you choose. The following steps apply to all versions of the Firefox Web browser.

Double-click the Mozilla Firefox icon on your desktop to open a new browsing window.

Navigate to the main menu and click "Tools." This menu can be found at the top of your Firefox browsing window.

Click "Add-Ons" from the drop-down list of option--a smaller window will open.

Ignore the recommendations section, and proceed to the top of the window, and select "Get Add-Ons."

Type "Java" in the search box and press "Enter." A list of various Java plugins will appear.

Select the latest Java plugin that you can see from this list. You will be able to determine the version that you are required to install by looking at the numbers next to the title. For example, Java Console Plugin 6.0.00 should be preferred for download over Java Console Plugin 5.0.12.

Select the "Add to Firefox" button when you have found the appropriate plugin to download. The download will begin automatically and you will be notified when it has been completed.

Close your browser window when the download has finished to restart Firefox. Open it again for the changes to come in effect.

Tips & Warnings
You can enable and disable Java by going to Tools>Add-Ons>Extensions. Find your Java add-on from that list and click "Enable" or "Disable."
