A Trojan virus disguises itself as a legitimate program.

A Trojan virus, also called a Trojan horse virus, is a malicious program disguised as a legitimate program, such as email attachments or Internet downloads. There are several types of Trojan viruses, including Remote Access Trojans, Password Sending Trojans, Destructive Trojans, Key Loggers, Wingate Trojans and Software Detection Killers. All of these are harmful to your computer and should be removed immediately by following the steps below.

Instructions

  1. Update Windows

    • 1

      Click on the "Start" menu.

    • 2

Click on "All Programs" and then "Windows Update."

    • 3

Click on "Check for Updates" and then "Install Updates." The latest Windows updates will include security updates that help remove and guard against Trojan viruses.

    Run Your Antivirus Program

    • 4

Open your antivirus program. If you do not have an antivirus program, consider downloading Windows Defender or AVG, which are free antivirus programs.

    • 5

Update your antivirus program. Most antivirus programs can be set up to update automatically. If you do not know how to update your antivirus program, consult the manufacturer homepage. An up-to-date antivirus program is necessary in order to detect and remove the latest Trojan viruses.

    • 6

Run a full scan of your computer using your antivirus program. Most antivirus programs give you the choice of running a full scan or a quick scan. A full scan will take longer but will scan your entire computer for Trojan viruses as opposed to just those areas where Trojan viruses are most commonly found.
