Instructions

  1. Holiday Wreaths

    • 1

Make your own festive holiday wreaths. These are one of the most classic and elegant ways to decorate for Christmas. They are fun to make of either organic materials you collect in season, or synthetic materials that you can store for use again the following year.

    • 2

Purchase a wreath frame from your local art and hobby shop. Arrange real or artificial pine leaves, pine cones, berries and twigs as desired by tying in place with a thin twine or gluing with hot glue.

    • 3

Accent with red and green ribbon or oversized bows. You could also use gold or silver spray paint, bells or other festive charms to add a personalized look to your wreath. Arrange your wreaths on your front door, garage doors, shrubbery, light posts, trees or even your mailbox.

    Gourd Lawn Decorations

    • 4

Try using large gourds like pumpkins and squash to create one-of-a-kind decorations. For example, make a Christmas snowman by cutting off the stem of three large, round pumpkins so they can be easily stacked on top of each other. Paint each pumpkin white with tempura paint.

    • 5

Add accent pieces with paint, fabric or buttons. Attach with hot glue, or with straight pins inserted into the skin of the gourd.

    • 6

Use gourds to make other holiday decorations that can add interest to your lawn or walkway. For example, gourds can be used to make nine decorative reindeer, a Santa Claus or even a nativity scene.

    Homemade Garlands

    • 7

Consider accenting your roof, walkway or garage doors with homemade garlands. You could even string your garland on trees or plants in your yard. This garland can complement a string of lights arranged outside to add color and vibrancy to the outside of your home.

    • 8

Make your own garland using organic materials by using hot glue to attach pieces of pine needle to a length of jute twine. Accent with decorative holly berries and small pine cones.

    • 9

Consider making garland that can be reused year after year. Cut out pieces of decorative felt in the shape of leaves or other Christmas-inspired shapes such as nutcrackers, gingerbread men or snowflakes. Attach these to jute twine with hot glue. Once the Christmas season is over, spot clean and store for future use.
