Instructions on How to Build Turkey Calls
When hunting for turkeys, the ability to attract the attention of nearby turkeys and draw them into an area can mean the difference between coming home with your quota or leaving empty-handed. A reliable call is the best method of ensuring that turkeys will come to you. A homemade turkey call can be produced from the discarded wing bones of a turkey from a previous successful hunt, and with practice, will allow you to re-create all of the most popular turkey calls.

1
Cut the wing bones from turkey near the shoulder blade if the wing has not already been separated.
-
2
Separate the bones of the wing, using the knife. The wing consists of three bones that get smaller as they get farther from the shoulder joint, capped off by a wingtip. Discard the wingtip after separation, as only the three bones nearest the shoulder will be needed.

-
3
Clean the bones of any remaining meat and tissue, using the knife.
-
4
Cut both ends of the two largest bones just far enough into the bone to expose the marrow. Err on the side of not cutting enough bone off, as you can always cut a new slice of bone off if the marrow is not yet exposed. Remove as much marrow as possible by passing the wire cleaner through the bones.
-
5
Cut off the rounded end of the smallest bone to expose the marrow, then file the flat end of the bone with the Dremel tool until the marrow is exposed, and clean the interior with the wire cleaner.
-
6
Boil the bones in a pot of water to loosen any remaining marrow, then clean each again with the wire cleaner.
-
7
Insert the larger end of the middle-sized bone into the smaller end of the largest bone, and secure with epoxy. Approximately 1 inch of the middle bone should be inside the larger bone. If the middle bone is too large, gently file it down with the Dremel. The seal must be airtight where the bones touch. If gaps exist between the bones, fill them with epoxy.
-
8
Insert the larger end of the smallest bone into the remaining opening in the middle bone, using the same method. Allow the bonds to set for 24 hours.
-
9
Suck in through the opening in the small bone to create turkey calls.
