How to Increase Bat Swing Speed
Bat speed is one of the major factors involved in hitting for power. Achieving higher bat speed can be accomplished by strengthening your hands and forearms. Bat speed is generated by moving the hands through the hitting zone as quickly as possible. Strong hands and forearms will allow the player to get the bat through the zone quicker and achieve the desired results.

Squeeze a tennis ball. Squeezing a tennis ball in your hand will help to make your hands and forearms stronger. Start by putting the ball in your right hand with your palm up and aggressively squeezing the ball 20 times. Take a 30-second break and squeeze the ball 20 more times. Do this five times with each hand.

Attach a clothesline through the hole in the middle of a 10-pound weight and tie a knot to secure it. Attach the other end of the clothesline to the middle of a broomstick, making sure that there is about four feet of rope between the weight and the broom stick. Stand up and hold the broomstick out in front of you with your palms facing down. You should be able to see the back of your hands. Without moving your arms, and using only your wrists, start to reel the clothesline in. Do this until the weight is at the broom stick. Without moving, use the same technique to lower the weight to the floor. Repeat this five times.

Do forearm curls with a weight that you are comfortable with. Sit down on a bench with a dumbbell in your right hand. Your palm should be facing up. Place your right elbow on your right leg near your knee. Start curling the weight using your wrist only. Flex your wrist back and forth so that you can feel it in the forearm. Repeat this exercise five times with both arms. This exercise will help to build muscle in your forearm and increase your bat swing speed.
