Many people remember making lanyards as part of summer camp activities. While there are many different stitches you can use to make lanyards, the Chinese staircase stitch produces neat looking results. It is perhaps the easiest stitch to learn when making lanyards, according to both the Boondoggle Man and Scoubidou Megaguide websites..
Things You'll Need:
- 3 Different Colored Strands Of Lanyard (Boondoggle Or Scoubidou) Cord
- Clear-Colored Lanyard Cord
Getting Started
Cut three strands of lanyard 14 inches long, and one strand 60 inches long (this should be the clear strand).
Tie all four strands together, leaving 1 to 2 inches of cord at the top of the knot.
Take the clear strand in your hand and make a loop over the front of all three other strands. Then take the end of the clear cord and fold it behind the three other colors and bring it through the front loop you made. Pull the stitch tight.
Continue this same way until your project is as long as you want it to be.
To finish off, you can untie the knot and do a square stitch to finish off the ends, or you can just tie the other end and leave knots of both ends of your project.
