Hard drive.

Many computer manufacturers create recovery disk drives in their machines. Usually a hidden partition inside the main drive, this partition contains the necessary data for reformatting the hard drive to factory condition. Although quite useful by itself, a recovery drive is no longer necessary if a recovery DVD has been created. Deleting the recovery drive (drive letter D) from the hard disk is something you might want to do to free up space after creating a recovery DVD.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Computer Management console. Go to "Start," "Control Panel," "System and Maintenance," "Administrative Tools," then double-click on "Computer Management." If prompted, confirm the operation.

    • 2

Open the Disk Management utility. This is located in the left navigation pane under the Storage category. A list of your storage disks will now be shown onscreen.

    • 3

Right-click on the D drive. It should be identified in the label as a recovery drive. Select "Delete Volume" from the context menu. When asked to confirm the operation, click "Yes." You have now successfully deleted your D drive.
