Whether it's for Valentine's Day, an anniversary, or no special occasion at all, giving someone a homemade, heart-shaped candy box can be a touching way to show how much you really care. Give your sweetie a heart-shaped box filled with goodies or have your children make one for their mom or teacher. Instructions

    • 1

Print out or draw your heart template, and trace it onto the mat board. You will need two heart shapes to form the top and bottom of the box. Cut out the heart shapes on the mat board.

    • 2

Cut the mat board into four long strips about 1-inch wide. These strips will form the sides of the heart-shaped box and lid, so each strip needs to be as long as one side of the heart shape.

    • 3

Place the heart that will be the bottom part of the box on a table or other flat work surface. Glue a strip of the mat board perpendicular along one side of the bottom heart. Use craft glue to hold it into place. Glue another strip of the mat board to the other side of the bottom heart, and ensure that both sides meet. Repeat this process with the heart that will be used as the lid of the box.

    • 4

Line up the sides on the lid with the sides on the bottom portion of the box so that they will fit together properly. Remove any excess mat that may be hanging over the sides.

    • 5

Decorate your box with crystals, stickers, glitter glue or any other embellishment. Next, fill it with your loved one's favorite treat.
