How to Make Incense Holders From Wine Bottles
Make use of your empty wine bottles by turning them into incense holders. You can use your imagination to create incense holders in different bottle colors, sizes and styles. Paint your wine bottle if desired or etch a design onto the sides. The wine bottles only need a small hole to allow air flow; otherwise the incense will not burn. After you make your incense holder, suspend an incense stick into the bottle. Give wine bottle incense holders along with incense as gifts.
Things You'll Need
- Safety goggles
- Mask
- Protective gloves
- Drill with diamond core glass drill bit
- 20 gauge wire
- Pliers

1
Put on your safety goggles, mask and protective gloves.
-
2
Use a lubricant such as water for your diamond drill bit and keep it wet. The water lubricant keeps your drill cool and prolongs the life of your drill bit. Water also collects the glass dust. If the bit feels too warm, you need more water on it.

Drill a hole at the base of the wine bottle neck. You can also drill the hole lower in the body of the bottle. Drill at 800 rpm for a 1/2 inch hole or make a smaller hole. This hole allows the air to flow freely.

4
Curl a 6-inch piece of wire using a pair of pliers until you have a wire coil or spiral. Make the coil itself as wide as the bottle opening so neither the coil nor the incense can fall into the bottle. Leave a straight piece of wire or stem about 2 inches in length for balance. The coil sits on its edge on top of the bottle opening with the stem inside.

5
Light an incense stick and suspend the stick onto the coil so the lit end smolders inside of the bottle. Smoke will exit the hole you made.

Tips & Warnings
You can use a small alligator clip on the bottle opening to hold the incense stick in place.
Decorate your wine bottle any way you choose. You can cover your bottle in polymer clay or fabric, which hides the used incense sticks in the bottom of the bottle.
Avoid oil lubricants. They do not work well on diamond bits.
