How to Make a Girls Tutu
Whether you are preparing to dance the Nutcracker or are looking for the perfect article to tie your 1980s ensemble together, a tutu is just what the doctor ordered. Tutus come in a wide variety of styles, from the long, romantic skirts in pale colors to the short, spunky versions worn in bright neon colors over leggings in nightclubs. Although tutus are generally sold in specialty dance and costume shops, you can create your own at home. Does this Spark an idea?

Measure your waist or the waist of the person who will be wearing the tutu.

Measure a piece of elastic 2 inches shorter than the previous waist measurement. Cut the elastic.

Staple the ends of the elastic together. Use several staples.

Determine the desired final length of the tutu and cut the tulle in strips, 6 inches across and twice your desired length.

Take a strip of tulle and place the center of the strip over the back of the elastic.

Bring the tulle around to the front and tie tightly in a knot.

Repeat this knotting process with all of the tulle strips, or until your waistband is sufficiently full and evenly fluffy.

Tips & Warnings
Add ribbon to the tutu (if desired) in the same manner as the tulle. Spray glitter is also a good addition.
