How to Make Homemade Gift Wrap for Kids
Add personal flare to gift giving by making homemade gift wrapping paper. This is a craft project children as well as adults will enjoy. Use the finished paper to wrap gifts for children or adults. Because the stamps used to decorate the paper are homemade, the project is appropriate for any holiday. Fashion heart-shaped stamps for Valentine's Day, shamrock shapes for St. Patrick's Day or stars for birthdays. For young children, have an adult cut and carve the stamp.
Things You'll Need
- Large paper grocery sack
- Scissors
- Potato
- Knife
- Pencil
- Acrylic paint
- Pie tin
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut a straight line down one seam of the paper sack, until you reach the bottom of the sack.
-
2
Cut around the perimeter of the sack's bottom, to remove the bottom of the sack and turn the sack into a rectangular sheet of paper. Discard the sack's bottom.
-
-
3
Cut a raw potato in half and using the pencil, draw a shape on one of the cut ends. Carefully carve the potato with the knife, removing the area surrounding the shape.
-
4
Pour a little acrylic paint into a pie tin. For multicolored designs, use several colors, each poured into a separate pie tin. Add just enough paint to barely cover the bottom of the pie tin.
-
5
Dip the potato stamp into the paint and then press the design onto the rectangular piece of paper.
-
6
Continue decorating the exterior of the paper, using the potato stamps and paint. Allow to dry completely after decorating before using as wrapping paper.

Tips & Warnings
A hemplike cord, instead of ribbon, makes a decorative finishing touch to the gift wrapping.
Texture the paper before decorating with paint by scrunching up the paper and then flattening.
