Change the font size displayed by the Internet Explorer 6 Web browser.

Typically abbreviated as IE6, version 6 of the Internet Explorer Web browser was released by Microsoft in 2001. It was designed as the default browser for the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 operating systems. Although the program has been replaced by both Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8, and many popular websites have dropped support for IE6 altogether, a small but significant segment of people continue to use the browser. For these people, changing the font size of most Web pages is a quick task.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open a Web browser window.

    • 2

Click "View" in the top menu bar.

    • 3

Select the "Text Size" option, then choose one of the five font sizes from the resulting sub-menu (Largest, Larger, Medium, Smaller, Smallest). In most cases the font size will change immediately.

Tips & Warnings

  • Internet Explorer 6, along with earlier versions of the browser, will not always change the font size in response to a user request. This happens when the Web page author has designed the page to use absolutely sized text, instead of a relative value that the browser can scale to a larger or smaller size. To override this, click "Tools" in the top menu bar and select "Internet Options." Press the "Accessibility" button near the bottom-right corner of the dialog box and check the box labeled "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages." Press "OK" to confirm the change.
