1
Place a jig head hook in the jaws of a fly-tying vise. The hook should be held in place by the bend with the point and barb on the bottom.
-
2
Select a color of thread to use when making the jig. Specialized fly-tying thread may be used as well as common sewing thread made of cotton or polyester. Place spool in a thread bobbin.

3
Wrap the thread around the neck of the jig head. The neck is the area between the base of the round jig head and the bait holding point. Wrap several turns of thread to form a base for attaching animal hairs to the lure.

4
Choose a color of animal hair to use on your jig lure. Place a clump of hair around the shank of the hook with the end of the hairs against the base of the round jig head.
-
5
Wrap the thread around the hairs to secure them in place. Continue wrapping the thread to build a body along the neck of the jig. Finish the wrappings with a double overhand knot. Apply a small amount of clear nail polish to the wrappings to secure them in place.
