How to Make Your Own Magazine Heading

Save

A magazine headline is the caption, or title of a magazine article. The headline is usually in large type and found at the front of a magazine cover and on top of the article itself, within the magazine. For those who do not work for a magazine but want to make their own magazine cover and headline for fun, there is an easy and totally free way of doing so online.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Internet access
  • Go to writeonit.org/magazine-cover.

  • Choose from the selection of magazine covers. The selection includes a lot of the most popular magazines, such as Wired, Time, Glamour, People, Rolling Stone and more.

  • Click on the magazine cover of your choice.

  • Click on the "Create your cover" button. This button is located directly below the selection of magazine covers and an advertisement banner. It is shaded blue.

  • Think of a "News Title." This will be the magazine headline. There are no rules; you can create whatever headline you wish. If you want to be silly or serious, it doesn't matter.

  • Type in the headline you came up with in the section titled "News Title." This section is located on the top of the screen, below the heading "Upload a photo and insert the cover texts!"

  • Think of a "News Subtitle." You don't have to come up with a subtitle, however, most magazine headlines have subtitles which add to the headline. For example, if your headline reads "Geek of the Year!" A funny subtitle such as "Armchair philosopher newest video game champion," helps add to the headline.

  • Type in the subtitle you came up with in the section titled "News Subtitle." This section is located directly below the "News Title" section.

  • Pick out a picture from your computer. If you don't have a picture that you want on your computer, you can find one around your home and scan it into your computer, find one online and download it to your computer or take a new picture and upload it into your computer.

  • Click on the "Choose File" button. This button is located directly below the "News Subtitle" section.

  • Browse through your computer files for the picture you selected in Step 9. Once you've clicked "Choose File," a pop-up box will appear with a list of your computer's files and folders.

  • Click on the picture you selected.

  • Click on the "Open" button. This is located on the lower, right-hand corner of the pop-up box, toward the left of the "Cancel" button.

  • Uncheck the box located on the left-hand side of "My photo should be available to the public" if you do not want your photo to be available for public view. If you don't mind, then skip this step.

  • Click on the "Create your cover" button. This button is located directly below the "My photo should be available to the public" option and an advertisement banner. It is shaded blue.

  • Save and/or share your magazine cover and magazine headline. The magazine cover, along with your picture and magazine headline, will appear on the screen along with the option for saving the cover/headline on your computer and sharing your cover/headline on websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Windows Live.
