How to Change a Cabin Filter
In the 1980s and early '90s, cabin air filters were found in most European luxury vehicles. Today, however, these filters come standard in most cars. The cabin air filter traps dust, pollen and other contaminants, protecting you and your passengers. Most manufacturers recommend changing the cabin air filter every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. But if you live and drive in a dusty or dirty area, replace the filter more frequently.

1
Locate the cabin air filter housing. Check your vehicle's owner's manual for the exact location of the filter housing. You will often find the cabin air filter under the glove box or under the passenger-side dash.

2
Remove the filter. For filters under the glove box, sometimes you must remove or unlatch and drop the glove box to access the filter. Filters under the hood often have a cover with locking tabs or retaining screws.

Insert the new filter in the same way as the old filter. There is an air flow directional arrow on the side to indicate which side faces up and which side faces down.
