How to Make a Pillowcase Halter Dress
DIY fashion gives you the opportunity to express your own sense of style. It also makes it possible to save money on otherwise expensive clothing and materials. One frugal, and surprisingly successful clothing craft, involves making a dress out of a simple pillowcase. Making a halter dress out of a pillowcase only involves a few materials and less than an hour of your time, making it easy to create and wear designs in the same evening.
Things You'll Need
- Pillowcase (California king size)
- Silk rope (1 inch diameter, on a roll)
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Zipper strip (12 inch length)
- Fabric glue (extra strength)

Smooth the pillowcase on a flat surface, after turning it inside-out. Align the seams, and point the open end away from you.

Cut from the exact center top of the pillowcase down approximately 12 inches in a straight line. Only cut through the top layer of the fabric,starting at the open end.

Fold the inner corners of the slit down diagonally about four inches outward, opening the pillowcase.

Affix the zipper, face-down, to either side of the slit on the folded fabric with fabric glue.

Cut a 12-inch length of silk rope from the roll.

Puncture the first layer of fabric at the bordered end of the pillowcase, which is also the open end. Puncture both sides.

Feed one end of the silk rope through one of the holes, keeping the top of the pillowcase gathered in your hand, feed the rope all the way through until it comes out of the opposite hole.

Tips & Warnings
Choose any variation of materials and colors such as bright red silk or even white linen for the pillowcase.
