A mailing address is something that every business needs to have because it adds a level of credibility. If you are a small or home-based business, providing your physical home address to your customers or clients can appear rather unprofessional. It can also cause your privacy to be invaded. By setting up a mailing address that is specifically designated for business purposes, the customer wins because he can communicate with you. You also win because your privacy is no longer an issue.

Things You'll Need

  • Form 1093
  • Identification
  • Rental fee

Visit the United States Postal Service (USPS) website. Click the “All Products & Services” tab that is located at the top of the page.

Click the “Online Services” box that is located near the bottom of the page. Select “Go” in the “Get Started Now” section.

Complete the “Search for a New P.O. Box” form fields. After entering your address in the fields, click “Search” to find a P.O. Box that is close to your location.

Select the box size you desire and the period of time you want to rent the box. Click the “Continue” button at the bottom of the page.

Click the “Sign Up” button to sign up as a new online user. You will be able to select a username, password and account type.

Examples of acceptable IDs include a driver's license, state identification card, military ID, passport, lease, voter registration card and insurance policy. The identification documents must be current. Once you have paid your fees and presented your IDs, the Post Office representative will provide you with the keys to your business mailbox.
