Slip inside your defender and then slow down, causing him to swim over your back and foul you.

From Quick Guide: Water Polo
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water Polo Balls
  • Water polo balls
  • Water polo goal cage
  1. Step 1

Wait for a foul to be called in the hole-set position. This will mean the hole-man now has 3 seconds for a free throw, but may not shoot.

  2. Step 2

Face your defender with your hips up behind you in the water.

  3. Step 3

Reach across and grab your defender's same wrist - right grabs right, or left grabs left.

  4. Step 4

Pull hard and fast on the grabbed wrist to pull your defender towards you and to the side.

  5. Step 5

Dive forward and to the opposite side of the pulling hand as you pull. Dive down and around your defender so that you come up quickly in front of him.

  6. Step 6

Begin swimming towards the hole-man immediately, keeping your body in front of your defender at all times. Feel your defender on your back and keep him there by zig-zagging as you drive forward.

  7. Step 7

Swim head-high freestyle, concentrating on the defender behind you. If he pulls back on you at all or if he swims over your back, it is a major foul. The defender will be ejected from the game for 30 seconds. If he fouls you after you get the ball, you get a 4-meter foul shot.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the defender turns fast enough and is swimming alongside you, try to dive under and in front of him.
  • If your defender is swimming in front of you, pop up for a rear-back shot.
  • If no foul is called, receive a wet pass from the hole-man and take a wet shot. Do not wait for the foul.
  • Be subtle about pulling your defender's wrist. You could be called for an offensive foul.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
