How to Create App Folders on iPhones or iPads

If you own an iPad or iPhone running on iOS 4.0 or later, you can create app folders to store and categorize your applications. This long-awaited functionality allows iPads to hold up to 4400 apps in folders and iPhones to hold over 2000 apps. Not only can you store more apps, but also folders make it far easier to organize your iPad or iPhone.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Press your finger on an app and hold until the app icons start to shake. This is the same process up to this point that you follow to rearrange your apps.

    • 2

Drag one app on top of another to create a new folder containing both apps. A new folder icon appears when you do this.

    • 3

Continue to drag and drop any additional app icons to that folder that you wish to include. Folders are automatically named based on the App Store category of the included apps. You can rename the folders is you desire.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can place app folders to the dock for easy access.

  • iPhone folders hold 12 apps each. You can create 16 folders per screen and may have as many as 11 screens.

  • iPad folders hold 20 apps each. You can create 20 folders per screen. IPads may have as many as 11 screens.
