How to Attach a Football Helmet Facemask
Attaching a facemask to a football helmet is a simple task that all football players have to accomplish at some point during their playing career. Facemasks come in all different shapes and sizes. The type of facemask that a player wears depends on the position that he plays. Linemen have facemasks with more bars in order to provide protection to the face and eyes whereas quarterbacks and receivers have facemasks with less bars in order to provide better vision.

1
Locate the preexisting holes on the side and front of the football helmet where the screws for the facemask are to screw in. Make sure that the holes are clear of any dirt or debris that may not allow the screws to screw in. There should be four holes--two on the front top of the facemask (just above where the eyes are) and one on each side.
-
2
Locate the rubber brackets that are already attached to the facemask. There should be four of them on the facemask. These rubber brackts hold the facemask in place and are attached directly to the helmet.

3
Hold the facemask up to the helmet. Look at how the holes in the rubber brackets and the holes on the helmet align. Make sure that the facemask is able to be used on a particular football helmet by noting how the holes align. If the holes align properly then you have a compatible helmet and facemask.

4
Screw the screws in through the rubber brackets of the facemask and into the helmet. Turn the screws clockwise until they are tight. The rubber brackets should fit snugly against the helmet and should hold the facemask firmly in place.
