How to Create a Cookbook Gift
A cookbook is a thoughtful gift for someone who enjoys cooking. It is a gift that the recipient will enjoy for a long time, and the recipes in it could even make it a family heirloom that can be passed on to the next generation. You can make the cookbook at home with a computer and a printer. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Select recipes that have special meaning to the gift recipient. For instance, they could be recipes for his favorite foods, recipes created by a departed loved one or recipes for foods that meet his special dietary needs. If the gift is for a family member, consider asking other family members to contribute their special recipes, which they could email to you. You can also find recipes at websites such as AllRecipes.com, MyRecipes.com and Epicurious.com (see Resources below). Similar to many cooks, your gift recipient may have recipes written on bits of paper. You could type these up for the cookbook.
-
2
Type each recipe into a word processing application. You can adjust the text size, color and font with the program's formatting tools. Consider including pictures of the various steps required to make the food and pictures of the finished meal. Ensure that you place page numbers at the top or bottom of the pages.

3
Open a new page in your word processing program and create a table of contents or index page. This should list the recipes in the cookbook by category and include the page number.
-
4
Open another page in your word processing program and use the program's label creation tool to create tab labels for the folder's divider pages. These will separate and identify each category so the gift recipient can locate the recipes easily. For instance, you may wish to divide the recipes into appetizers, desserts and entrees. Type the names of each category onto the labels.
-
5
Print the recipes and the table of contents page. Place the sheet of labels for the tabs into the printer tray and print the tab labels.
-
6
Arrange the recipes by category. Place a divider page between the last page of one category and the first page of the next category.
-
7
Separate the tab labels from the sheet of labels. Stick each one onto the appropriate divider page to identify each category.
-
8
Select a picture for the front of the cookbook. Print the picture and slide it into the pocket in front of the binder.
