How to Write a Commending Thank You Note

Writing a handwritten thank you note is the proper etiquette.

A lost etiquette, handwritten thank you notes are the best way to commend a person with sincerity and meaning. Speak highly of the person and what was accomplished to deserve your praise. Show your sincerity by detailing why his contribution or gift is important in your life. The thank you letter should be mailed promptly after the action deserving praise and is a great way to show appreciation.

• Pen

Instructions

1. Write on a purchased thank you card, sheet of paper or blank card. Typically written with a black or blue pen, thank you notes should always be handwritten for a personal touch. Address the recipient. Start by writing the person's name whom you are commending in the form of a greeting.

2. Thank the recipient for their action or for the gift given. Express your gratitude for what was done and speak with sincerity. Discuss the appropriateness of the behavior or gift and describe to the recipient how you will translate this into your life.

3. Relate this gift or action back to the recipient. Describe how it was influential to you and your relationship with the recipient. Thank the recipient for the gift once more. Be gracious in your approach.

4. Include your favorite regards when signing the thank you note. Use the sign off most comfortable to you whether it's sincerely, warm regards, love, or a more personal touch. Do not include personal news. This is not the avenue to share details about a job, dating life or the family. This is the time to commend someone and it should be limited as such.

5. Mail the letter. Set a precedent for your personal manners and mail the letter promptly.
