How to Sew a Drawstring Pouch
Sewing a drawstring pouch is a quick, easy and inexpensive project. Pouches can be customized with fabric of your choice and can be used for storage in kitchen, kids' rooms or the office. They also make a cute, reusable lunch bag.

1
Decide the size and shape pouch you want. Vertical rectangles work best for pouches.
-
2
Iron and wash your fabric before cutting and sewing.
-
-
3
Measure the shape and size of the pouch on the fabric, adding 1 inch to the width and 2 inches to the height for seam allowance. The fold of the fabric should be the bottom of the pouch. Cut out the fabric.
-
4
Open fabric and press a half-inch fold on both long sides. Turn in a quarter inch and press again.
-
5
Sew seam along folded hems.
-
6
On the top and bottom turn and press a hem allowance of 2 inches. Turn the raw edge under a quarter inch and press. Turn under another quarter inch and press again. Sew along the pressed hem.
-
7
Turn right sides together matching top and side seams. Sew along sides, stopping just before the top hem. Turn right side out.
-
8
Thread a cord through the casing at that top and trim it to the desired length.
