Instructions

    • 1

Cut the hand towel in half width-wise. This will be the hood of the towel.

    • 2

Cut two circles out of the other half of the hand towel; they should measure 4 inches in diameter. These will form two monkey ears.

    • 3

Fold the circles in half and pin each semi-circle for stability. Use scissors to make a cut 1 inch on the bottom part of each semi-circle, where the towel fabric folds.

    • 4

Sew the rounded part of the semi-circle, leaving open the extra part you just cut on the bottom. Do the same with the other semi-circle.

    • 5

Turn each semi-circle inside out through the opening you cut. This will hide the seam inside the sewn pieces.

    • 6

Lay the bath towel on a table or on the floor. Place the uncut edge of the hand towel directly above one of the long sides of the bath towel.

    • 7

Center the two towels, pin the pieces together and sew. You can sew the big towel over the smaller one, or you can sew them with the right sides together. Either way is acceptable.

    • 8

Fold the smaller towel in half to pair the cut sides together. Pin along the cut edge and sew.

    • 9

Pin the bottoms of the semi-circle monkey ears to either side of the hood of the towel; hand-sew the ears on the hood using a slipstitch.

    • 10

Pin bias tape around the opening of the hood and along the edges of the bath towel; sew.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose a bias tape that contrasts with the color of the towel. For example, if you are using a brown towel to make the monkey hooded towel, use yellow bias tape.
