How to Cut Up a Dragon Fruit

Dragon fruit, also known as pitahaya, comes from climbing cactus. This exotic fruit, with its skin covered in spurs or scales, has a slightly sweet taste. The flesh is either white or red and full of tiny edible seeds. If you have never tried to cut up a dragon fruit before, it may seem a little daunting. It actually is no trouble; in no time, you will be enjoying your dragon fruit.

Things You'll Need

• Dragon fruit
• Cutting board
• Knife

Instructions

1. Place the dragon fruit on a cutting board. Since you do not eat the skin, it is not necessary to rinse the fruit.

2. Trim the scales by cutting them off even with the surface of the skin.

3. Cut the fruit in half from one end to the other.

4. Slice both halves into quarters, as you would an apple. Cut the skin away from the flesh of each quarter. Instead of peeling each wedge, you can also eat the fruit right off the skin.

Tips & Warnings

• You don't have to cut the fruit into quarters. Another way of eating the dragon fruit is to scoop out the flesh with a spoon after you cut the fruit in half.
