Spyware can cause popups on your computer.

Doubleclick popup ads can be an annoying nuisance. Many of the popup blockers and antispyware programs commercially available are not able to stop these popups from hampering your Web-browsing experience. Luckily, there are a few easy steps you can follow to rid your Windows-based computer of Doubleclick ads for good. Editing the "Hosts" file for your operating system will prevent your computer from connecting to the ad server.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to "Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories," then right click on "Notepad," and click "Run as Administrator." Click "OK," if you are asked for permission to continue.

    • 2

Click "File" > "Open" to bring up the file navigator and select "All Files" in the file type drop-down menu.

    • 3

Navigate to "C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc" and open the "Hosts" file.

    • 4

At the bottom of the file, paste this line of text: "127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net"

    • 5

Save the Hosts file and exit Notepad.

Tips & Warnings

  • Doubleclick has multiple sub-domains. If you are getting popups from "ad.es.doubleclick.net," "ad.fr.doubleclick.net," etc.,simply add these to the bottom of the hosts file as well. Use the same string from Step 4.
