Instructions

    • 1

Attach two floor-length mirrors to a corner to reflect light and give the illusion of more space. Install one mirror to each wall that meets at the corner. Purchase two mirrors (without frames) from a home improvement center. Attach the mirrors with clear plastic mirror clips. The proper screws will be included with the package of clips. Use a screwdriver to attach the clips to the wall and mount the mirror.

Fill the space in the nook of a bay window with a small table and chair. Place an appropriate-sized reading lamp on the table and a cozy afghan over the chair back to create an inviting reading area.

    • 3

Set a tall plant on the floor to fill up a recessed wall. Place a small interior spotlight on the floor behind the plant. Adjust the direction of the light to shine up toward the plant. These spotlights have low-voltage bulbs that are used for subtle accent lighting.

Decorate an alcove with a vase or flowers. Mount an ornate framed mirror or hang a favorite picture on the wall.

    • 5

Select a bookshelf to go between a narrow space between two doors or windows. Measure the wall space between the two openings before purchasing the shelf. Allow for space so the wall does not look crowded.

    • 6

Paint a recessed wall space a darker shade than the wall that surrounds it. A slightly different color will draw attention to the space even when the space is unused.
