How to Replace an Amana Washing Machine Belt
As part of the GE line of appliances, the Amana washing machine uses many of the same part designs and systems as other GE washers. The washing machine belt is constantly moving during the operation of the washer and will eventually wear out or break, requiring that it be replaced. You can change the belt yourself in less than an hour and save the time and expense of calling a repairman to fix the washer for you. Does this Spark an idea?

Unplug the electrical cord of the Amana washing machine from the electrical outlet before attempting to replace the washer belt.

Turn the water supply off at the shut off valves behind the washing machine and locate the screws at the base of the front panel.

Unfasten the screws at the bottom of the front panel with a screwdriver and lift up and out on the panel to remove it from the washer cabinet.

Locate the screws that hold the top lid to the Amana washer cabinet on the front of the top inside the cabinet and remove the screws with a screwdriver.

Flip the top lid back so that it is resting on the rear hinges and locate the motor at the base of the cabinet.

Unfasten the springs on the bottom of the cabinet that are attached to the motor cradle, using a pair of pliers to remove the springs from the cradle.

Locate the four bolts that fasten the motor to the cradle and use a socket wrench to undo the bolts, removing them from the cradle.

Tip the motor cradle sideways and unplug the electrical wiring block from the motor, pulling it loose from the metal prongs by hand.

Take the washer belt off the motor pulley and from the around the water pump pulley, removing the belt from the washer cabinet.

Place the new belt around the motor and water pump pulleys and attach the electrical wiring block to the motor by hand.

Position the motor back onto the motor cradle and secure it with bolts using a socket wrench.

Attach the springs to the motor cradle with a pair of pliers and flip the top lid back down over the Amana washer cabinet.

Secure the top lid with screws and place the front panel back into position, attaching the top of the panel to the clips on the top of the cabinet and securing the bottom of the front panel with screws.

Turn the water supply back on at the shut off valves and plug the electrical cord of the Amana washing machine into the electrical outlet.

Always unplug the electrical cord of the Amana washing machine from the power source before replacing the belt.
