How to Change a Power Window Motor on a 1995 Buick Skylark

To change the window motor on a 1995 Buick Skylark, the window regulator must be extracted from the door. The window regulator is the nonspring-loaded scissors type of regulator. It is advisable to check the power window fuse and the relay first to be sure that the power window motor is the problem. When ordering the window motor, make sure it's for that specific door since the motors are different for each side. The left will not fit on the right.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the Phillips head screws in the armrest with a screwdriver. Remove the screws on the bottom of the door panel with the screwdriver. Insert a flat head screwdriver between the door panel and the door. Pry out all the trim fasteners around the three sides of the door panel.

    • 2

Disconnect the electrical plugs on the back side of the door panel. Peel the moisture shield back to expose the access hole for the window regulator. Remove the two nuts on the horizontal window regulator channel with a 10 mm socket.

    • 3

Remove the three rivets securing the window regulator to the door by drilling the head of the rivets out. Disconnect the electrical connector from the window motor. Wedge the window by inserting the flat head screwdriver down between the window and the door to keep the window from falling.

    • 4

Slide the window regulator rearward to get the channel blocks out of the channel, which is attached to the bottom of the window. Remove the window regulator and motor from the door.

    • 5

Install the new window motor and regulator in reverse order of removal. Use the 5/16-inch bolts and nuts in place of the rivets that were drilled out.
