How to Use a Dremmel to Trim Rottweiler Nails
If you own a Rottweiler, try cutting its nails using a dremel tool. Dremels make the nails smooth, as opposed to a standard nail trimmer that leaves a rough edge. A dremel makes it easier to see the quick or vein of a dog with black nails, such as Rottweilers. It gradually takes the nail off, instead of removing it in one fell swoop, states eckoridge.com.

1
Place your Rottweiler on a table, if possible. Being off of the ground typically makes a dog feel less stable and less likely to run away. Keep the dog on the ground if the table is not an option and position yourself so that you can easily grab the rottie's feet. Either stand in front of the rottie's legs and pull them forward, or stand behind the legs and curve the feet back toward you---whichever is more easy and comfortable for both you and the rottie.

2
Pet your rottie with the dremel to get it used to the sensation and more comfortable with the unfamiliar object, suggests petplace.com. Start touching the dog with the dremel turned off and as your Rottweiler becomes comfortable, switch it on. Practice this technique a few times before actually attempting to dremel the nails, if your rottie is especially skittish or weary.

3
Grind the nail below the quick at a 45-degree angle. Make small grinds and check for evidence of the quick after each touch, states eckoridge.com. Do not touch the dremel on the nail for a long period of time, rather, roll the grinder very fast along the nail. When you start to see a black dot in the middle of the nail, stop grinding, as this is the quick.

4
Give your Rottweiler treats and speak to it in a calm, reassuring voice throughout the process. The dog likely will respond well to the rewards and might become relaxed because of the sound of your voice. Enlist a helper to hold and pet your rottie if you cannot complete the task on your own or if the dog needs extra comforting.

Tips & Warnings
Keep styptic powder on-hand to control bleeding in case the nail is cut too short. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you will dremel into the quick and bleeding will occur. Place a bit of powder on the nail and it will stop the bleeding within a few moments.
