How to Check the Status of an Alabama Unemployment Claim

After losing your job you immediately apply for unemployment benefits. In the state of Alabama you may file for your benefits online. During this stressful time, the last thing you want to do is undergo a long waiting process to know if you were approved for unemployment benefits.

Things You'll Need

• Internet access
• Already applied for unemployment benefits
• Telephone

Instructions

1. Go to the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations website (see Resources) and select the "Unemployed Workers" located at the center of the web page. You will enter your user name, log in and click "Next."

2. Select the "View Weekly Claim Certification Information." A new window will pop up and you will be able to view the status of your unemployment claim.

3. Call the toll-free number to check the status of your claim at 1-866-234-5382. Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The TTY/TDD number is 1-800-499-2035. You will need to provide your social security number.
