How to Decorate a Bedroom with Ladybugs

Decorate your child's bedroom or nursery with a ladybug theme. In some cultures, ladybugs are seen as symbols of good luck and fortune. Whether this is true or not, children will delight in a personal space enhanced by their favorite insect. A ladybug-inspired bedroom celebrates summer, gardens and time spent outdoors. Ladybug-patterned textiles such as curtains, furniture and bed coverings will infuse the room with a whimsical style. Use bright ladybug decor items in a nursery to stimulate a baby's senses.

Instructions

1. Set the backdrop for ladybug-inspired decor by painting the walls a complementary hue. Choose a bright red shade or a fresh, leaf-green color for one accent wall, as a whole room of either of these might be overpowering. If you have neutral white, taupe or butter yellow walls, hang a whimsical ladybug-patterned wallpaper border. Display it directly under the ceiling or around the center of the room, approximately at the height of a chair rail.

2. Enhance the bed with a ladybug-enhanced comforter or quilt. Choose a white bed cover featuring red ladybug designs and a green leaf-patterned border. A red and white checked bed skirt will create a picnic-inspired look. Pick green sheets that complement the leaf patterns. Complete the look by folding a red throw blanket at the end of the bed and displaying a ladybug-shaped decorative pillow.

3. Add warmth to hardwood or tile floors with a decorative rug. Place a large fluffy red and black ladybug-shaped rug in the center of the room, or several small rugs throughout the space. Even if the room already has carpet, if it is a neutral color, you can put the ladybug rugs right on top. If it is not a neutral color, consider replacing the rug to make this room transformation complete.

4. Decorate with ladybug-inspired items. Place a lamp with a ladybug-patterned shade and red base on the nightstand. Set out a ceramic leaf-shaped candy dish featuring tiny red ladybug designs. Dress up a plain wood bookcase with ladybug-shaped bookends. Allow kids to make and display their own ladybug-enhanced clay flower pots; kids can enhance terracotta pots with red paint and stencils. In a nursery, hang a mobile featuring dancing ladybugs, bees and dragonflies above the baby's crib.

5. Hang red window coverings if the room has neutral-hued walls. Enhance the curtains with a white valance featuring small red and black ladybug designs. If the room features red walls, pick white curtains displaying an all-over red ladybug pattern. Add a pop of color with a red and leaf-green striped valance.
