How to Clean Trojan Viruses

How to Clean Trojan Viruses thumbnail
Trojan Viruses can delete your files.

A Trojan virus is a small program that is generally used to complete some malicious act. The main difference between a Trojan virus and a regular computer virus is that a Trojan virus does not spread itself. Nevertheless, Trojan viruses can be harmful to your computer. A Trojan virus may slow your computer, delete your files, record your personal information and send it to a hacker, download additional Trojans onto your computer and disable your firewall programs.

Instructions

  1. Update Windows

    • 1

      Click on the "Start" menu.

    • 2

Click on "All Programs" and then click on "Windows Update."

    • 3

Click on "Check for Updates" and then click on "Install Updates." Installing the latest Windows updates will ensure that your security protection is up-to-date. Windows security protection helps prevent Trojan viruses and can also help fix the problems associated with Trojan viruses.

    Update Your Antivirus Program

    • 4

Open your antivirus program. If you do not have an antivirus program, consider downloading a free antivirus program, such as Windows Defender or AVG (see "Resources" below).

    • 5

Update your antivirus program. If you do not know how to update your antivirus program, consult the manufacturer homepage. It is important to keep your antivirus program up to date because new Trojan viruses are created every day. According to Microsoft, an out of date antivirus program is only marginally better than having no antivirus program at all.

    • 6

Run a full scan of your computer using your antivirus program. Most antivirus programs give you the option of running a full scan or a quick scan. A full scan will search your entire computer for Trojan viruses. A quick scan will only search those areas where the Trojan viruses are most likely located. Scanning your computer with an up to date antivirus program should detect and remove the Trojan viruses on your computer.
