How to Raise Money Fast for a Mission Trip

How to Raise Money Fast for a Mission Trip thumbnail
Fundraising for a mission trip requires creativity.

Going on a mission trip is a life-changing experience. You get to represent your faith while spending time with people from other parts of the country or world. Deciding to go on a mission trip is the easy part--there's so much to get excited about--but raising the money to pay for it can be daunting, especially if you need the money quickly. Raising that money takes dedication, planning and a little bit of creativity.

Instructions

    • 1

Ask everyone you know--friends, acquaintances, family and co-workers--to make donations toward your trip. Your excitement and enthusiasm will likely convince many to contribute.

    • 2

Talk to your congregation, as well as other congregations in your extended community. If you don't have time to speak to other congregations, contact the pastors or members of those churches to ask if they would read a letter on your behalf.

    • 3

Make it easy for people to donate. Set up a webpage, if you can, and put a donation button on it, or post on your blog and social networking sites such as Facebook or MySpace. Services such as PayPal allow you to easily create accounts and donation buttons. (If you are under 18, you will need your parents' help with this.)

    • 4

Raise money through traditional means, such as a bake sale, a dinner fundraiser or a car wash. If you don't have the time for any of those, sell coupons for services that can be "cashed in" after your return, such as baby-sitting, snow shoveling, pet care, web design or music lessons.

    • 5

Try something creative. One congregation in Oklahoma raised money for a mission trip by sponsoring a pie toss.

    • 6

Ask businesses to donate raffle prizes or food for an event, if you have time to organize one. Ask businesses if they would be willing to donate a portion of a day's sales toward your trip or at least put a donation jar by the cash register.
