Juices and food fragments can create a buildup on stainless steel flavorizer bars

Stainless steel flavorizer bars, situated beneath the grilling grate and just above the heat source on a grill, turn juice drippings from grilling meats into smoke that adds extra flavor to the food being cooked. Because the bars come into contact with meat juices and fallen food tidbits, sooner or later you will need to clean them due to buildup. Routine cleaning will help extend the life of flavorizer bars as they will be less likely to corrode. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of rubber gloves and open the lid of your completely cool grill. Remove the cooking grate from the grill and place aside. Lift out the stainless steel flavorizer bar panel or the individual bars.

    • 2

Place the bars on a surface such as old newspapers or cardboard that will catch the debris created from scraping the bars. Scrape the bars with a stainless steel brush to remove cooked-on food and buildup.

    • 3

Fill a sink or large container with hot water. Add 1/4 tsp. of liquid dish soap to the water to create soap suds. Place the flavorizer bars in the soapy water and allow them to soak for 30 minutes.

    • 4

Scrub the bars with a scrubbing sponge or brush to remove any remaining residue. Rinse the bars under warm, running water and dry thoroughly with a soft towel.

    • 5

Place the bars back into the grill and replace the cooking grate. Close the lid of the grill.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean the bars as soon as you notice any buildup, or after about 10 uses.

  • Always wait until the grill is completely cool before attempting to remove and clean the flavorizer bars. Otherwise you could burn yourself.
